CAMP LEJEUNE, NORTH CAROLINA - Secretary of Defense Robert Gates spoke to Marines of the II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune on May 12. His topic was the bright future of the Marine Corps.
Gates credited the sacrifice of Marines over the last ten years particularly on the War on Terror.
“It’s because the Marines are always ready, and for all your victories from Anbar to Helmand and the sacrifices you and your families make daily, I thank you.”
Gates opened up to audience questions after his speech, including questions about budget and the future of Afghanistan.
Gates will retire as Secretary of Defense later this year after handing over his post to CIA Director Leon Panetta.
